Producer Andrew Watt and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith played an intimate show in The Hamptons, New York and as if watching that duo perform at a a 250-capacity venue isn't a treat enough, the crowd at Stephen Talkhouse were in for an even bigger surprise when Paul McCartney came out to perform two songs.
Dressed in jeans and a zip-up hoodie, Macca started off with a duet of Neil Young's Rockin' In The Free World with Andrew's girlfriend Charlotte Lawrence and then sang one of his own songs: I Saw Her Standing There by The Beatles. Former Hall & Oates guitarist and Saturday Night Live bandleader G. E. Smith was also onstage to round out the band.
Andrew and Paul have worked together before. Macca was featured on a track off The Rolling Stones' latest album Hackney Diamonds, which Watt produced.
Last year, Andrew also revealed he wrote a currently unreleased song with McCartney during what was supposed to be a casual meeting. “Suddenly, we had a song,” he told The New York Times at the time. “From a cup of tea to a song. Doesn’t it sound easy?”
